Points of Interest
Malecon Alvaro Obregon: A beautiful street for tourists and natives, as well as for all those who enjoy the bay and beautiful sunsets. Along the Malecon there are many establishments which make it even more attractive: hotels, open air restaurants, arts and crafts, boutiques, beaches, children's playgrounds, and many of the
city's most beautiful antique mansions and landmarks.
Our Lady of La Paz Cathedral: A construction in the shape of
a latin cross, a peaked roof and two towers with a pyramid-shaped finish. It was built by Dominican priests in 1861 and yet it has the simplicity and enchantment of the Jesuit misions.
The Velazco Garden: La Paz's main square, the traditional meeting place of the city's inhabitants. It was built last century. The square as well as gazebo are such as
they were originally designed. Around the square, visitors can find many ice cream parlors and book stores.
The Las Californias Library: Located in the former
Government Palace. It is a beautiful building built around 1880. One section has the most important textbooks on history and culture of the Peninsula and Baja California, and the other section features interesting graphic exhibits on the subject.
The Museum of Anthropology and History: Exhibits more than 1,200 very interesting pieces. There is an ethnobotanical garden outside the building. It forms part of the "Agora de La Paz Cultural Unit," where the Agora
Bookstore is also located, as well as the Justo Sierra Library and the Southern California Institute of Culture.
The Jesus Castro Agundez Cultural Unit: Surrounded by gardens, houses the modern City Theater, libraries, art galleries, the Rotunda of Illustrious Men, children's playgrounds, and the monument of the Four Mills, which symbolize ancient La Paz and in whose honor the area has been named.
La Paz Aquarium and Exhibit of Marine Species: This interesting place exhibits the region's marine beauties. Different live species, some of which are native to the region, moveabout in faithful reproduction of their natural habitat. It also features an exhibit of sea shells and snails which may be of commercial value.
