Sierra De La Laguna Biosphere Reserve

Location: Sierra de La Laguna is located within the "La Victoria" mountain range, in the state's southern area and it is shared by the municipalities of La Paz and Los Cabos.

Date of the Decree: June 5th, 1994.

Date of Publication: In the Official Gazette of the Federation, on June 6th, 1994.

Total Area: 112,437-07-25 hectares. It comprises a core zone measuring 32-519-82-62-5 hectares and two dampening zones, which respectively measure 79,317-24-62.5 and 600-00-00 hectares.

The abundance and diversity of species of Sierra de La Laguna is incredible, A total of 447 plant species, 108 varieties of arthopods, 4 amphibian, 38 reptile, and 74 bird species, as well as 4 mammal sub-species, unique to the Sierra de La Laguna, have been found there.

The core zone comprises the most important natural resources, with the greatest biological diversity. Besides, this area is the one least disturbed by human activities. Most of the oak and pine tree forests are included in this area.

The dampening zone protects the Core Zone from external impacts. Within this area, economically productive activities can be performed under strict ecological regulations.
